Role Summary/Purpose: At GE Digital we are looking for an entrepreneurial and highly technical Software Director with excellent background in open source foundation and standards consortia engagement. This role reports into the Chief Architect of the Predix Platform. Predix is GE’s Industrial Internet Platform (Industrial IOT) to help customers build and operationalize applications that help reduce unplanned maintenance downtime for customers by leveraging sensor data and analytics.
Essential Responsibilities:

As a critical part of Predix Leadership, you will be responsible for developing and facilitating the execution of external engagement strategies in open source foundations and industry standards consortia for Predix products and services. The primary responsibility is to be the subject matter expert on open technology strategy, assisting the Predix senior leadership team, as well as various stakeholders across the company in establishing and executing open technology strategies for various products. You’ll do so by creating a pipeline of engagement proposals and driving them through a governance process that brings together business, technology, and legal perspectives to ensure that GE Digital participates effectively in the ecosystem.
These capabilities are delivered to developers and administrators through Cloud Foundry based Micro Services Architecture.

As a Director of Open Technology Strategy you will be responsible to engage with product, legal, and executive teams to ensure a cohesive open source engagement strategy:

In this role, you will:

  • Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and people management skills including solid communication and analytical skills with thorough understanding of product development and successful problem definition, decomposition, estimation and resolution
  • Influence decision making through active partnership with cross-functional teams
  • Own and manage the multiple rapid prototyping and product development budgets
  • Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of lean/agile software and user experience engineers
  • Work with product owners across the businesses to understand market needs & vision; quickly translate that vision into demonstrable software
  • Quickly define and deliver working software prototypes
  • Work with product owners and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans
  • Work directly with customers to understand business and technical needs
  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
  • Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities
  • Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables
  • Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
  • Keep project data relating to tracking and financials current
  • Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities
  • Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team
  • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and GE leadership. Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results
  • Build a world class software development team to consistently deliver complex software platforms and research projects of varying size and duration
  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math),
  • Minimum of 12 years experience in the software domain or a Master’s Degree with 10 years of experience
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in an engineering leadership / management role
  • Minimum of 4 years experience developing software in an agile environment.

  • Prior experience in leadership positions in open source or similar foundations
